From the formal European-influenced style and subjects of Robert Duncanson's Summer (c. 1849) and Henry Ossawa Tanner's Interior of a Mosque, Cairo (1897) through Archibald J. Motley Jr.'s Night Club (1935) and Hughie Lee-Smith's Rooftops (1954) to Betye Saar's Dark (2002), this calendar's twelve images celebrate the splendid diversity of the art of black America, as some artists have refined their representational work and others have sought a purely abstract vocabulary.

Almost single-handedly, Bob Marley gave reggae an international following and influenced countless young musicians to follow in his footsteps. The twelve memorable photographs presented here pay tribute to this legendary artist; pertinent events and anniversaries are noted throughout the grid pages.

A good time is had by all! Shan Kelly Cecilio's long-limbed, impossibly lithe island women cavort and shimmy in slippery clothing of blinding tropical hues and in-your-face patterns that match their wearers' sly, just-try-me-sonny attitudes. Without ever making an explicit appearance in Cecilio's art, the beating sun and compelling music of the Caribbean are here in each frisky image. Titles include Little Red Dress; Hips, Hips, Hips; and Just the Motion of the Ocean.   Some justly famous, others undeservedly obscure, twelve great achievers of African descent get their due in this inspiring calendar. A concise biography attends each tribute, and notable birthdays and events of significance to Africa and the African Diaspora appear each day on the calendar grids. This year's edition honors activists, athletes, opera singers, politicians, and a physician, a sportswriter, a poet, an astrophysicist, and a visual artist.

The ECOlogical Calendar uses an innovative format to express a new way to think about time. Earth's seasons are represented on four separate 36" wide panels, each with engaging color graphics identifying constellations and brightest stars, meteorological and ecological phenomena, high and low tides, moon phases, and more.
The days of the month are printed from left to right across the bottom of each 3 x 1' panel and are labeled with the familiar Gregorian day and month names but also with names more directly evocative of the time of year to which they refer, e.g., "WinterBurr." The backside of each panel contains additional information about a season's important ecological points, and also reveals a clever poem built on the ECOlogical day names. Click on the small picture above for a closer look at one side of the Winter panel.
The Art of the Lord of the Rings 2006 Wall Calendar offers fans and collectors a brand new look into the artistry that was the basis for bringing the Academy AwardT winning epic motion picture, The Lord of the Rings to the big screen.

This full-color Art of The Lord of the Rings - 2006 Wall calendar features twelve amazing sketches, paintings and illustrations that helped create the award-winning motion picture trilogy, The Lord of the Rings.

Jean-Michel Basquiat's work defines "intensity." His career was cut short by an early death, but Basquiat left an enormous ouevre of works on canvas, paper, wood, and textiles. (He also tended to paint on the refrigerators, furniture, walls, and doors of those with whom he temporarily stayed, sometimes to his hosts' bemusement.) Brilliantly colorful, funny, angry, and perceptive, the images presented here include Jawbone of an Ass, Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump, and Leonardo Da Vinci's Greatest Hits.   In 1901, Seattle photographer Curtis set out to record what were popularly thought to be the final days of the indigenous Americans. His 40,000 portraits of Indians filled twenty volumes, all filed with the Library of Congress. Accompanied by brief, scholarly, highly readable essays, dignified faces of Arapaho, Mandan, Nez Perce, Jicarilla, Crow, Brulé and Dakota Sioux, and other tribes gaze pensively from this calendar's pages. Significant events in Native American history are noted throughout the year.

Black ballplayers were excluded from the majors by the late nineteenth century (some white players refused to take the field with a black teammate or adversary)-but being "blackballed" didn't stop them from playing some of baseball's most thrilling games. With archival photographs accompanied by bios, stats, quotes, anecdotes, and historical notes on the monthly grids, this calendar is full-immersion black ball. Partial proceeds benefit two assistance programs for old Negro League ballplayers.   French impressionist Claude Monet (1840-1926) developed his garden in the Parisian village of Giverny, covering his extensive grounds with brilliant flowers and profuse greenery. Photographer and expert gardener Elizabeth Murray helped to restore Monet's gardens, which are now open to the public, during the 1980s; she returns each year to capture new radiance on film. Murray's detailed descriptions accompany her verdant subjects. Included are views of the Grande Allée, the famous Japanese-style footbridge, and the inspirational water garden.
